It's hard to believe that the journey started 3 long years ago. I've come so far, yet not as far as it feels like it should have come.

My first album is out on Monday. I'm surrounded by the buzz and excitement of it all but I can't help but feel sadness. Why? It's complicated.

Brett and I dated when I was in high school. It was true love. Well, the dysfunctional kind of true love that you get when two people couldn't be worse for each other. Brett was older than me. He'd finished school a few years earlier and he wanted to be a rock star. He played guitar and was, you know, the quiet, moody musician type. With his shoulder length messy dark hair and deep dark eyes you could see your own reflection in. This was lust in it's rawest form. But I mistook it for love.

4th Street was where I had found him. He was unconscious but still breathing. He could've had it all, he could've made it big. But he chose his addictions over the life that could've been.

He always said that the only way to overcome hard luck, which featured a lot in his life (so he thought), was with hard work. But really Brett got this wrong, for his life anyway. He worked hard to make his own hard luck

His death hit me hard. But it made me realise that I needed to get somewhere and do something with my life, if only so that his death wasn't for nothing. I write this on the third anniversary of his death. It is with great excitement, but incredible sadness, that my new, my first, album is released. Hard Luck is Hard Work...this is for you baby...R.I.P.

Writing Prompt - Unspoken

I'd not heard of twentysomethingwriters.com until today but when I stumbled upon it I decided to join in with the "writing prompt". This prompt was entitled "unspoken" - to read the full details head on over to their site here. But I figured, as I've not told a secret in a while, this would kill two birds with one stone (I am so going to write a post on useless and nonsense sayings / phrases we use one day!!). In short, the idea is to write something you would say to someone if you could (but for reasons that don't need to be explained you can't).

Ok, I think I have more than one person to blog about here so each paragraph will be for someone different!

Here goes nothing...

S - Why did you lie to me and break my heart? It would've been so easy to tell the truth, I'm a reasonable person as reasoning goes. I would've coped and it would've ended amicably. Instead you had to drag it out and made it 10 times worse! Then you had to change your mind and make it even worse for me because I had to say no to you, if we got into that vicious cycle we would never have gotten out of it. That was 7 years ago and it still bothers me! I know I say I've forgiven you, but for some reason it still hangs around in my mind. You were mean and you said horrible things...all because of your guilt! I'm not sure I'll ever forgive you, even if I say i have....in fact, I'm going to de-friend you on Facebook!
SP - I'm really sorry I stole your crayons when we were 5! It still bothers me a little!

A - I was such an idiot for being with you! You were the worst of the bunch, you might not have stolen my heart but you stole, lied and deceived. I'm glad you ran away when things got tough because I know what you did. In fact, the whole of the UK knows what you did because it was in a national paper. You did me a favour by leaving!

M - I'm so sorry I hurt you. You were gentle, kind, caring and selfless but I just wasn't there with you! I tried really hard but I just didn't feel the same. I'm sorry for hurting you and not being completely honest from the start but I'm really pleased you found someone who treats you as you deserve to be treated!

K - I forgive you; although it was trivial it caused a lot of hurt and upset for that final year and it made me miserable. I'm glad we're friends again and I was really pleased when you apologised (5 years later!!)...better late than never! I appreciate and value your friendship now we're older.

JR - We didn't get on in the beginning, and it was a very long beginning. You made my life hell whilst growing up and you pushed me out when I should've been on the inside where I belonged. I'm glad everyone can see it now because I felt invisible for a long time. I'm glad you felt bad when you realised what you did, but you can stop now because it's over and everything is fine. Something you may never hear me say out loud, but I do mean it, is that I love you. I'm sorry you'll never get to hear that.

Stevie - Oh Stevie, what did you do!? I hope oneday you figure it all out and come home. No-one's angry, we all just want to know you're ok. It's been almost 2 years without any news. They found your things near where you used to live. Your mum was devastated. We hope you didn't so something bad. There's always another way. Starskey wrote a song about you!! I really hope to see you soon, we all do. Lots of Love xx

Oh my god, I could actually go on with this for hours - I'm not big on speaking my mind out loud so this is actually quite therapeutic hehe! Anyway, before I bore you all and you never come back I shall stop! Maybe I'll continue another day (when I can sneak in a post without anyone noticing!!).

BY THE WAY if you haven't seen my last couple of posts, check them out HERE and HERE, because it’s super and uber cool and the bestest thing ever and you need to join in. It’s my 100% excellent recession busting plan (that, like I’ve said before, I cannot believe the government have never thought of. They’ll catch on soon though – like they did with my idea to print more money!). JOIN IN (or I’ll tell you how much you suck. Well I wont, but I’ll say I did!).
