Friend: I don't understand why people use the
internet so much?
Me: WHAT? (I'm sure you can imagine my amazement at this
comment but I cannot put it in to words!)
Friend: Well what's the point?
Me: To find out things, have fun and make friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friend: Granted, it's good for info. But aren't those people trying to make "friends" just pervs and losers?
Me: Erm....hello? I think you'll find I'm one of those pervs / losers!
Friend: Why?
Me: Well I write 2 blogs for FUN and I love to make friends - putting to the 2 together apparently makes me an internet perve (can you tell I was getting irrationally irritated?).
Friend: Well I'm allowed my opinion.
Me: ... gobsmacked!
Ok "friend", you are allowed you're opinion but NOT when it's completely unjustified. I was so lost for words that I couldn't explain the beauty that is the blogosphere without blowing my cover - this wasn't a pre-mentioned friend but is one that knows the other friends so couldn't direct her to my blog.
Can anyone help me? I thought I might put the plus points in an email and fire it off via the internet (that's just for pervs did you know!?).
I'm still irritated even though I've slept on it!

I don't use the internet as much as I want; if I had the freedom I'm never be off it. Oh wait, that sounds sad lol.
well you could point out to her that some people through no defect or character abnormality are a bit stuck indoors (four kids for example) with no adult company throughout the day, and that for people like them, or those with mobility problems etc, the internet is a real lifesaver. And then you could kindly point out that if there are things she doesn't understand or know how to use you'd be willing to help :) luv Karen (well known non-pervert)
As I don't have friends outside hubby's circle of friends I need the internet to be able to talk to people and make cyber friends. I don't really care if this sad as I enjoy it tooooooo much and won't stop.
@ Serena - I have an Iphone so I have constant internet in my pocket and I love it!
@ MGM (aka well known non-perv hehe) - I totally agree, it's a great way of keeping you sane when you might not have other like minded people to talk to!
@ Leetid - It isn't sad, i actually think it's quite creative!
I heart the internet and actually think I'd be really miserable without it! Just in the few weeks I've been on Blogger I have made quite a lot of friends (but would still like more hint hint) all over the world - now, what non-internet addicted person can say that!? xx
What I don't understand is how people ever survived without the internet. Seriously.
What's funny about this is your friend is living in 1995, when the internet was for nerds and pervs.
She better snap back to 2009 where it's for the coolest people around, true story. Otherwise, she is going to MISS this boat!
I wouldn't be able to live without the internet. I use it to meet new friends, blog, shop, look up information, download, and even to order food.
clearly your friend hasn't spent much time on the internet in the last 10 years. not everyone uses it to stalk down little children and wind up on "to catch a predator" on dateline. geez. we're not freaks!!! we're fuckin awesome!! :]
Ok, so you totally get this when I explain how weird I feel sometimes when I explain to my roommates and offline friends about my Internet friends. So... this girl I know... I mean, not really know...but know because I read her blog and we talk online and on Twitter all day... yeah.
So, no we're not pervs, but sometimes this online life doesn't translate easily to the non-believers! I get that.
