The Start of Something New - Hmm, i'm sure that's the title of a Priscilla song!

Recently I’ve been feeling that I don’t really have time for any of the little extra things in life like reading (seriously, Forever is only 178 pages so doesn’t count as a book), coffee with friends, opening post (!!)…just the simple things that make you feel like you’re doing something other than going to work, going to sleep (with a serious amount of blogging in between!).

To remedy this problem I decided to try getting up earlier! This would allow me to catch-up with blogs / comments before getting ready for work (I already did this but it tended to make me later than I wanted to be for work and left me a bit frazzled in the AM – see conversation via email below)

Jen - I'm drafting a post called "things you never knew about me"... #1. you may know about my OCD but do you know that I religiously check the blogs I'm following (all however many of them) on my Iphone before I even get out of bed in the morning!? No, I thought not! Haha, it's true! Life is sad!

Friend - I’m well aware of your internet obsession missy

Jen - Seriously, the second I wake up, I role over, grab my phone and away I go. Wifi is an incredible thing!! I like to do it that way because then I don't have to worry I'm missing something when I arrive at work - OMG I am hysterical in my head!! To be honest though I am not ashamed of my obsession! I do love the internet!

Friend - OMG, I am actually hysterical at you! I’m sure you could go to some remote part of the states and marry the internet and it would be legit.

As you might be able to tell, blogging was causing me some stress but not blog related stress, it was life related stress. Anyway, today was my first day of setting my alarm for 6am in the hope that I would get up early, do the blogging thing and then actually be able to sit down, have a drink or just do something other than blog. Lets re-cap on what actually happened this morning!

5:40 - woke with a fright - I was dreaming my boss had discovered my high volume of internet use and I had in fact been sacked!
5:40 - 6:00 - Laid in bed concerned about whether I had in fact lost my job (ridic I know!)
6:00 - alarm goes off
6:00 - 7:00 (usual getting up time) - playing catch-up with
blogs (because I love you all so much remember!)
7:00 - Got dressed, walked to get a newspaper (trashy daily tabloid of course)
7:15 - Got back, sat and read paper and had coffee.
7:45 - brush hair (I totally forgot to do it before getting paper! ahh), usual brief beauty regime!
8:00 - ensure I have everything for work
8:10 - Drive to work
8:25 - Arrive at work
8:40 - Pressure is too much - sneaky peak at Blogger!!!
9:00 - in desperate need of sleep....hmm, I wonder if I'd get away with closing my office door and napping!?

So....it sort of worked! I got to do more in the AM but I'm slightly concerned that I wont be able to stay awake through American Idol tonight and that will be a tragedy! How will I cope? That doesn't mean you have to give me last nights results!!

I totally forgot to mention....it was a 1 day trial. I'm off work tomorrow so it doesn't matter what I do WOO HOO! Just weaning myself in early!

I love that we're on the same page! Too bad we're not in the same time zone and we could "meet" for coffee/chat/email or something in the mornings! I managed to get up by 630a this morning, which is progress!

Oh, and this part:
<< 5:40 - woke with a fright - I was dreaming my boss had discovered my high volume of internet use and I had in fact been sacked! >>

I have worried more than once that my bosses will see the amount of time I spend on Reader and Wordpress and I'll get in trouble! This is why I'm getting up earlier... to stop doing this at work!

Except... I'm at work now...

Your funny! I am up at 5am daily. I love getting stuff done when everyone is still sleeping. You get used to it after a week or so.

@ Lily - I'm at work too and look at me blog! It's an affliction I'm positive! this is only my 2nd out-of-lunch-hours peak at blogger today though!! Doing well, normally it's every 5 minutes. I've started to use my Iphone but now I'm scared I'll get the mother of all phone bills!! I need to be a lady of leisure and then I can blog as much as I want!! Well done for 6:30, I'm going to have a lie-in tomorrow to make up for my 5:40am effort! x

@ PJ - but seriously, that week or so of tough-love to myself could actually cause death! The people of this crazy town aren't ready to see me with crazy bed hair!

Ahhh, here I go again, online at work! I'm going to hell!

I've been waking up at 5am pretty steadily for over a month now because I go to the gym before work. At first, it was killer and I was falling asleep over dinner at 7pm, but your body adjusts to it after a certain amount of time! (I just had this very same conversation with my co-worker)

Cause Hubby starts work earlier than me I am at work about an hour before I start as we travel in together so I use that hour to catch up on everything on the internet and then have sneaky looks during the day when no one is looking and then back on the computer as soon as I get home and on it for most of the night till bedtime!! I am getting addicted and its effecting my reading time as I just can't get off the internet so you are not alone with this internet obession.

My problem is kind of the reverse - I compulsively start blogs. sigh.

Very nice to meet you! Thanks for the visit.

I was checking my blogs at work today (on my break). Thank god for my BlackBerry!

Oh god. I started getting up at 5:00AM too in order to blog and check blogs, write back to people, and squeeze in my morning run.

This pretty much means that I'm obsessed with the blogosphere.

Oh yes, my iTouch sits right next to the bed. First thing I do before I get up in the morning is check email... or, if I have to pee, on the pot.

It's seriously an addiction.

Look at me not replying to comments ASAP. Must improve!

@ Jaycee - you are more than welcome to marry the internet - I actually opted against this as divorce would be expensive!

@ Jess - seriously, 5am? 5am would equals death for everyone I work with when I get really cranky by about 2pm!! Hehe.

@ Leetid - the problem is that once I start looking online at work I feel a bit invincable and like I'm going to get away with it (mental note - must remember the dream!!).

@ Lolita - I think I'm going to start doing my blog posts in my sleep! hehe.

@ 52 Faces - that made me laugh! I hope I don't get that afflication (I prefer to call them afflications than addictions, makes them seem more of an illness!).

@ SB - this is something I'm doing more and more, I can feel my huge phone bill coming will break the letter box!

@ Cheryl - Do you think we should campaign to get doctors to make this a recognised condition?

@ cJs - Seriously, you are not alone!!

@ Moi - the world is definitely not ready for my bed head! Thanks for coming over!

@ LiLu - I also check from my phone whilst peeing! We are terrible!

I'm so glad to see I'm not alone! x
